I have a love song for each of my children. When they are distressed and bawling their hearts out, I gather them in my arms and I sing to them “their” song. When they are sleepy but fighting to keep their eyes open, I sing them to sleep. When my heart is overflowing with love and a million “I love yous” is not enough, I sing. I sing my love, I sing my joy, I sing, I sing, and I sing!
You Are My Sunshine
(click here to listen to my favorite version)
You are my sunshine, my only sunshine
You make me happy, when skies are grey
You’ll never know dear, how much I love you
Please don’t take my sunshine away
Little T and I fell in love with this song during Quiet Time in our Kindermusik class when she was just a year old. We brought it home into our hearts and made up our own nighttime version: You Are My Moonlight. :)
Tell Me Why
Tell me why the stars do shine
Tell me why the ivy twines
Tell me why the sky’s so blue
And I will tell you just why I love you
Kindermusik has given our family the gift of expressing ourselves through music. At 12 months, Baby Boy lights up and signs “love” the moment I start singing “his” song. His breathing slows down and he falls peacefully to sleep.
What love song do you sing to your children?
Make magic!

lovely song!
I sing "You Are My Sunshine" to my daughter too. Sang it to her since she was in my tummy! :)
i let my baby listen to her lullaby collections whenever im away & she's asleep. when she's in my cradle, i love singing 'looking through your eyes" by leann rimes. it's not a lullaby though, but i love its lyrics. my favorite line in this song, "i see the heaven each time that you smile, i hear your heart beat just go on for miles. and suddenly i know my life is worth while. that's what i see through your eyes." im looking forward to the time that she can finally sing this song with me while going to sleep. it will be our bedtime song.
It's really a sweet song, perfect for our little sunshines! Just recently, we found a Sing & Read book that extends the song. After the first verse, you can sing "you are my starshine, my only starshine, i love you so much each night and day, you'll never know dear how much i love you, please don't take my starshine away." The third verse goes "you are my loveshine, my only loveshine, i miss you so much when you're away, you'll never know dear how much i love you, please don't take my loveshine away." Love!
I also sing You are my Sunshine to my little boy and without fail, I always tear up.Probably because he really brings the sunshine to my days.
it's not a love song but my song for my little girl is "I Hope You Dance". and she's really living up to the song because the girl REALLY loves to dance! hindi ko anak! hahaha but yes, I think her "stage presence" and her love for expressing herself is because of Kindermusik. :)
I haven't heard "I Hope You Dance" yet. Is it a KM song? :)
